United States Tent Pegging Federation USTPF

The United States Tent Pegging Federation, Inc. (USTPF) ® is a Not-For-Profit 501(c)(3) charity performing for the safety and welfare of equine and for the safety of the riders. USTPF serves as the national governing body for Tent Pegging, which is an ancient equestrian sport. USTPF promotes Tent Pegging as an equestrian sport in the United States for developing the riding skills of interested Americans and for saving the horses from getting slaughtered. Th USTPF believes horses trained for a different sport can be given a chance to live and can be used for Tent Pegging.

I had the privilege to learn about Tent Pegging when I interviewed its president, Dr. Asim Shahzad Malik, for an article I wrote for the Arabian Horse Life magazine, "My Arabian Can Do That," in issue 4, 2017.

Historically, Tent Pegging roots are considered to be as ancient as that firstly employed by Alexander the Great in 326 BC as the cavalry technique to defeat King Poro's army who was fighting with their battle-trained elephants. Tent Pegging is the English language name for the sport. It is also known as Qilla in the Arabic language and Neza Bazi in the Urdu language. This sport/discipline is a true test of Skill at Arm and the ability for equestrian athletes.

The USTPF will train, select, fund, and promote Tent Pegging for training events and tournaments in North America and abroad. It has numerous players across the US and strives to develop more riders across the continent. One of its most important goals is to develop this ancient sport, produce and assist enthusiast individuals and organizations in learning, hosting tent pegging events and competitions across the United States.

It is also dedicated to the welfare of the equine athlete and will strive to promote proper horsemanship/ horse mastership from the Novice to the Master, which is vital to the Federation's future success. The USTPF's program to train young tent peggers creates ongoing generations of equestrian athletes who constantly elevate and maintain the highest of standards.

The USTPF remains steadfast in its promise to defend equine welfare and support federal and state governments, as well as other national equine entities.
